Starting today, our new fund Maki.vc is officially on the lookout for the most foot-on-the-gas startup teams. We invest from seed to A rounds across technologies, industries, and continents.
Maki.vc is first and foremost a family of superior help, with our sleeves rolled up. Because we’ve been founders ourselves, we know the uphills and downhills of being an entrepreneur. Getting to the top is faster together with our experienced team and global professional ties.
Knowing the Nordic startup ecosystem inside out, the Nordics will be our home front, while we’ll take on a global frontline. We’ve had the honor of building the region’s strongest companies such as Wicom, Enevo, F-Secure and Slush ourselves, and we’ve learnt a lot on the way.
Now it’s time to pay it forward. The saying goes, for every Nordic company that raises over 10 million in investment, at least three new startups will be born. We want to make sure the most ambitious founders, Nordic or not, get both the financial and entrepreneurial support they need so that the number of tech superstars can keep on growing.
We are proud to already have on board pioneers who truly know how the tech world is ticking. Our LPs include Supercell founders Ilkka Paananen and Mikko Kodisoja, Niklas Zennström from Atomico, Mistletoe Venture Partners International, Chairman of Nokia Risto Siilasmaa as well as leading Nordic institutional investors, such as OP and Ilmarinen.
Maki.vc’s first fund will be targeting €70 million. We open the game with medtech companies Disior and Neuro Event Labs, VR & AR pioneer Glue, and recruiting startup Sumpli. During 2018, we’re looking to make altogether ten investments in the most promising founders, ranging from AI and machine learning to new user experiences, materials and processes.
Appearing in the last name of our two founders Ilkka and Pirkka, the word “Maki” might first remind you of a Japanese delicacy or a certain species of apes. But we kid you not — Maki doesn’t mean only sushi or monkey business anymore.
